Corrupt Characters in Illustrator Text Box

I am having trouble finding the problem to why the first line of this text box is filling with corrupt characters.

Is there any suggestions on what to do to fix this without changing the size of the text box, kerning, or leading?

How was this text created? Are you copy and past it into Illustrator?

It is copy and pasted from a word document!

It is for packaging and when we create it, it is fine but if we want to go in and edit the text it is getting corrupted somewehere^^

Which language is it?

Are there any special invisible characters in the text?

Does that happen with all text copied from Word?

Does that happen with all fonts? Is the font assigned correctly in Illustrator?

Does that also happen when you save the text in a Work file and open that in Illustrator?

Try to place whole Word document into Illustrator. Go File Place->Choose word file

and also check this option before copying text - in Illustrator preferences
