CPU vs GPU issue with Simulate Color Paper Issue

For some reason, Illustrator runs better (less lag) on my PC when I use CPU preview instead of GPU. It is mainly only noticeable on very large files though. Can anyone explain why this is happening when my GPU is good quality and shouldn't have issues (as far as I'm aware)? Illustrator recognizes the GPU under preferences & GPU Performance is checked.
The other issue is that when I preview on CPU and "Simulate Color Paper" is checked, it changes the colors and they don't display correctly. It's as if the background color is overlaying the image to change it's color. White artboards don't seem to cause issues. Is there a fix for this or is Adobe working on one?
My stats are:
Windows 11
GPU: NVIDIA Quadro P2200
CPU: Intel 11th Gen i9-11900K @ 3.50 GHz, 3504 MHz, 8 Core
32GB Ram DDR3
Latest version of Illustrator 2022

Hello christopherc88806812,
Sorry to hear about this experience. I would request you try updating the GPU drivers, restarting the computer, and relaunching Illustrator to check if it helps.
Also, try resetting Illustrator's preferences by following the steps shared in this article (https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/troubleshoot-preference-issues.html) and sharing your observations.
Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with the defaults. You may take a backup of these settings from the location mentioned in the article.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
Anubhav

Thank you for the quick reply!
Quick question before I reset preferences. If I copy the folder over like the link says, when I put it back, will I get back everything 100%? I have custom work spaces, keyboard short cuts, and preferences. There's a lot there to go wrong and this issue isn't big enough for me to risk losing those custom settings if that's a possibility.

THat is what "Cimulate paper color" is supposed to do. It's not a background color. It simulates printing on colored paper. If you want a background color, then draw a rectangle and fill it with the desired color.

Yes thankyou for the reply Monike, but I am aware. I don't use it, I work at a company where sometimes others use it & have requested they not.
The thing is when I preview in GPU it does not change colors, only when previewing in CPU. This seems more like a bug than a feature to me.

The GPU is fast, but not precise and above all it is not aimed at displaying prepress stuff.
Trying to eliminate its issues is futile, because with every driver update there will be new bugs or what has just been worked around is returning through the back door.

Ya that makes sense, you may be right 🙂 After talking to other artists at my company, I've found that they have the same issue where previewing in CPU is better on larger complex files.
