Crashing AI no matter what update I use on PC

New Here ,
Nov 26, 2021 Nov 26, 2021

I will be half way into my work, not even trying to save it or anything and all of a sudden my AI will freeze, non respond, and crash.  I have gone back and forth between older updates of AI and new, days apart, and it crashes regardless.

Hi, sorry about that

I don’t have a solution, but maybe if you try to reset the preferences will work, here the instructions: https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html#setting_illustrator_preferences

Hi there,

Sorry about the crashing! I know that's really frustrating. I would request you to share a few more details like:

    • Please confirm the exact version of Illustrator and OS installed on your machine currently
    • Does it crash while working on a specific file or after performing a particular action?
    • Where are your files saved (Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System/ External HDD)?
    • Submit the crash report by following the steps suggested here (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/kb/crash-next-steps.html).
While submitting the crash report, please use the same email address with which you are signed in on this community. This will help us find the crash report and help accordingly.

Also, you may try the steps shared on this page (https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator/how-to-fix-crash-on-launch-in-illustrator/td-p/12213344) and share your observations with us.

We will be looking forward to your response.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini

  • I have tried using 26.0.1, 26.0, 25.4.2, and 25.4.1, for several days for each one.  Right now I have gone back to the latest which is 26.0.1 as the other ones crashed as well so I didn't think it mattered.
  • It crashes during different things.  I could be coping and pasting something from photoshop to AI or I could just be using the text and typing something or just clicking on one of my images and changing the color.
  • The files are saved on a network drive
  • I have submitted several crash reports, I'm fairly certain one gets sent every time it crashes.

Thanks for sharing the details. You may check out this help article for network relates issues (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/kb/illustrator-support-networks-removable-media.html). Also, I must inform you when network connectivity issues prevent any version of Illustrator from reading from or writing to open files, and it performs a protective shutdown. The shutdown can appear to be an application crash or unexpected quit. However, it is intentional behavior to protect from data loss. You may check if keeping files offline on system HDD/SSD works without crashing. If yes, then you may contact your IT department or Admin of the network drive.
