Create grid with differently sized columns

Hello everyone,

I am trying to make a grid in Illustrator that is similar to the one in this image:

Pack This List.jpg

As you can see, the columns would be different widths. I know how to split an object into a grid, and I've made 4 skinny columns and 4 wider clolums, all separate objects, and then stuck them together but they just are not lining up correctly, so they look uneven.

Does anyone have a suggestion of how I could do this by just creating one grid with differently-sized columns?

Thank you in advance!

Do you also have InDesign?

Then do it there, because that's what it's there for.
