create outlines VS expand

Hello,

When I have some text in Illustrator, what is the difference between :

1) Create outline (Type/create outline)

2) Expand (object/expand)

Because I have to export to SVG inside a Word document.

The result is the samen for text. Expand can also expand strokes and fills..
