Creating an editable DWG from a raster image

Contributor ,

Hi everyone!

I have a technical scheme in PDF and i'd like to perform some edit in AutoCAD. To do so I wish to open the attached PDF in Illustrator, do some operation and save it in DWG.

A simple export is not enough, since I will get something not editable.

I've already tried to sharpen edges in Photoshop but the result is not changing so much (the background is white and i can't snap the edges, see the screenshot).

Do you have any suggestion?

There's a trace preset that is suitable for this kind of drawings (the one on the far right in the trace panel).

Don't expect miracles. You will perhaps not even recognize the drawing.

So this PDF is a raster image?

EVen if not: by editing it in Photoshop, you made it a raster image.

Or do you wish to autotrace it?

You might be later able to edit it, but it won't be suitable quality for actually producing the parts in CAD.

So you need to draw this manually. Probably just start over in AutoCAD, without using Illustrator first.

It's a raster image. I'd like to use it only as a trace, not for detailed drawing

I can't see the panel under "Quick actions". Why?

You'll see it if you have an image selected. Otherwise, go to Window > Image Trace

It doesn't work so well, but it's the best possible way
