Creating character artwork that will be animated in Photoshop

Engaged ,
Oct 05, 2018 Oct 05, 2018

I want to create some characters in AI and place them into PS, and do some basic animations with them. Is there anything I can do with the layer organization or anything else to make this process easier?

Thanks.

Animate and Character Animator are 2 different applications. To use the digital puppet and webcam, make sure to use Character Animator.

You can use either Illustrator or Photoshop to make your puppet. Use whichever application you feel more comfortable working with. You would make either a PSD file for Photoshop or and AI file in Illustrator. I would highly recommend modifying a puppet from the Start workspace. You can pick which puppet to modify and whether you want to make it in Photoshop or Il

You make you drawing in illustrator, group components that will stay together, paste those grouped components to upur  photoshop file as smart objects so now you have everything in photoshop ready to animated, and you can now double click in your smart object layer to open that component back in illustrator if you need to it it. Save, and everything updates in photoshop keeping the animations

Animate is a good alternative as well.

Hand over the assets via CC libraries.

Is someone wants to use Photoshop and prepare the images in Illustrator:

Use a main layer for each assets that should be a layer in Photoshop.

Stay away from blend modes in Illustrator (as well as other transparency trickery)

I would recommend checking out Character Animator Adobe Character Animator Learn & Support . Characters in Character Animator are called puppets and are set up a particular way, but once it's set up, you can use your webcam to animate the puppet. You can modify a provided puppet to make your own Create and edit puppets in Adobe Character Animator CC .

I will give Animate a try with the webcam. Any suggestions regarding preparing the files from AI to go into Animate? What file format is best to save into to go into Animate?

Thanks.
