CS Illustrator crashes anytime I go to open a file.

I've restarted several times, resent preferences, and no luck. Now what????

did not update anything.

my ai program is up to date.

i tied to open a zipped file yesterday afternoon. After the first crash, everytime i restarted and tried to open an illustrator file it is crashing.
