Have you tried reseting your preferences..?

https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/user-guide.html/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.ug.html

If that doesn't work then you may need to uninstall and reinstall:

Uninstall or remove Adobe Creative Cloud apps

and use the cleaner tool:

Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner tool to solve installation problems

Hi there,

Sorry about the trouble you are facing. This generally happens when a third-party application has similar shortcuts. Which OS and version of Illustrator is this? When did this start happening? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates, or web extensions, any new software installed recently.

As closing programs running in the background have worked you. You may try booting the system into Safe Mode (Mac / Windows) and open other apps one by one until you find the app causing the issue. In Safe Mode, your system starts to perform certain checks and prevent third-party software/ services from automatically loading or opening.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini

Hi! Please help me 😭. I've tried every way to fix the problem but can't. Already checked the keyboard language, other running programs in background, keyboard shortcuts settings, close creative cloud in task manager, install and uninstall... literally everything that I can find on the internet. But my Ctrl button still wont work on my Adobe Illustrator. But it works on Photoshop! Please help me. My ai is 2021 version on windows 11

Hello @Sazlinaini,

Sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind trying to run Illustrator under a different administrator account (Windows / macOS) and checking if it helps? Also, try running Illustrator under Safe Mode (Windows / macOS) and sharing your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav

Hi! Thank you for your reply!

I've tried both way but both still didn't fix the problem. But what I noticed is that it only works 1 time using the ctrl button. But when I want to repeat it suddenly it wont work. For example if I want to undo, it only works one time and if next I want to copy/paste, it won't work anymore.

Several apps can be stealing modifier keys. Such as but not limited to:

  • WebRoot
  • Apple Terminal
  • Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • »Enable Full Keyboard« in Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard on Mac OS
  • Apple Mail, Outlook
  • Spacebar is used as a shortcut by the system
  • Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari
  • Wacom Desktop Center, Wacom settings
  • Windows Touch Pad problem
  • LastPass, Bitwarden (password managers)
  • The VPN
  • LangSwitcher app (it needs to be closed and disabled)

Do you run any of these?
