Curser stuck to pencil tool

The curser is stuck to the pencil tool with a symbol that indicates that I can't use the pencil. Nothing happens when I try to use the tool. When I try to change to the selection tool or any other tool nothing happens. When I open a different document this problem doesn't exist. I have tried to save the document again and make a copy of it but nothing works. What can I do?

Check if the layer is locked.

Depending on the tool you're trying to use there might be other reasons as well.

doh, I should of known that, it's like when you phone IT and the first bit of advice is, have you tried turning it off 🙂
