I have just downloaded the trial version of Illustrator CC and am trying to do an image trace of a photo however the custom option for Trace is greyed out and not available. Why is that and how can I make it available?

Correct answer Monika Gause

You can still save your own custom set of options and then access it in the menu if that's what you want.

It becomes custom when you customise one of the options.

Hi Ton,

Ok - I have now found how to customise the options. I was confused as in a previous version (CS5) I used to be able to access the custom settings from the menus itself.

I have this same problem right now with a 1 year old mac model and latest software. it's not working like it used to. It's just greyed out and when you click one of the other presets or anything else it just automatically starts tracing it without even a second to bringing up the options dialogue like it used to.

At the bottom of the Image Trace Panel uncheck "Preview"

The panel is in Windows > Image Trace.
