The Pathfinder Pallet

Draw a triangle with the pen tool that fits inside your letter. Use the Minus Front button in Pathfinder to remove the bar. You can then go in with the pen tool to remove the extra points on the inside lines.

I was gonna say "Swipe across bar with direct selection tool, delete, join paths (ctrl-J twice)" until I noticed those little extra elements on the bar, but essentially the same: just cut paths at selected anchor points (Shift click with Direct Selection Tool to select multiple), swipe to select (cut) bar, delete (twice for lines and points), select "A" join paths (ctrl-J twice).
