How do I delete the recent files from Ai when using CC 2017?

    Correct answer @mj

Choose Preferences > File Handling and Clipboard > Number of recent files to Display. Set it to 0.

This no longer works. Just hides them, it does not clear the list. Open AI and change the number from 0 to 20 to see all the recent files. If it is set to zero it still remembers the list from before. So, no way to clear the list. If you see the list, then set to zero then quit then reopen set to 20 quit again, when you reopen your list is back, so, no way to clear the list, just hide it. But, when it is set to zero it does not add to the list, but the existing list is never cleared. This pertains to the 2025 version of AI.

    Hello @NudeCruzer,

Currently, Illustrator does not have this functionality. Would you mind upvoting the UserVoice for this feature request (https://adobe.ly/3WFT0vp) and adding your comments there? Doing this will help us prioritize this request, and you will be notified of any updates.

As an alternate, you can reset Illustrator's preferences first and then set the recent to 0 to permanently disable it.

Disclaimer: Please note that renaming preferences folders will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also save a backup of the folders, the location of which is mentioned above.

Feel free to reach out if you have more questions or need assistance. We'd be happy to help.

Probably not by posting in an InDesign forum. Moving to the Illustrator forum ...
