Question

Diagonal lines jagged and choppy in illustrator

Seen some posts on here about similar issues, but not sure if my issue has actually been resolved. Noticing jagged/choppy lines especially worse at certain angles. Rotating vectors to ~0/90/180/270 seems to resolve the issue. Using 0.75 pt for stroke size. pixel and outline off. Resolution settings have been maximized.

Have attached screenshot below. The issue is most prominent with the shadding on the bottom half of the head.

Please help!

There are pixels in your monitor. Those angled lines cannot be rendered smoothly.

And yes, certain angles are worse.

Do you need to convert this to pixels? Photoshop does a better ob at that. Import the AI file in Photoshop and use it to rasterize.

It's going to remain as vector, so no need to convert. Good to know it's just my monitor, although somewhat perplexed given it's ability to create smooth lines of similar thickness and angles in AI.

Can you compare these smooth lines at similar angles and your image side-by-side?
