Difficult to grab and move objects with selection tool

New Here ,
Dec 28, 2022 Dec 28, 2022

I've used illustrator on mac for years with no issues. Now, on widows, I am having a problem simply grabbing objects and moving them wiht the selection tool unless I remove the bounding box (ctrl + shift + b) or zoom in considerably. When I click *anywhere* on, e.g., this small arrow I've created, it will either grab an endpoint or try to rotate it. What's going on here? Is there some sort of sensitivty I can turn down? This make AI so slow and frustrating to use that I will have to switch to something else if it can't be fixed.

Changing the seleciton tolerance in preferences > selection & anchor display does nothing.

I am running windows 11 on a lenovo machine with intel cpu and nvidia gpu. I htinkthe issue might be similar to what this user is experienc

Hi @seqno @stephk79,

We are sorry for the trouble. If increasing the tolerance is not helping out, then I would suggest zooming in or turning on smart guides from the view menu to help select the objects more precisely. Also, this has been reported by many users in the past. The product team is aware of it and working on enhancing the selection tool functionality in future updates.

Would you mind upvoting this UserVoice and adding your comment there? This will help prioritize the issue, and you will get updates by doing this.

Thanks,

Anshul Saini

What happens if  you change your selection and anchor setting to (check active) Object Selection by Path only?

Did you make sure your path was closed? You can also try sending to back or front. I hope this helps!

This is still very much an issue in 2024. If the shape is too small, the selection tool will still not work, but the shape will be rotated or deformed from the anchorpoint that is caught. This should not happen when using the selection tool. If I want to rotate, I use the rotate tool. If I want to deform I use the direct selection tool. I only want to maove the shape around without having to zoom in all the time.

Please fix this already.
