Here I used a pen tool to create shapes by tracing the white rings of the salmon flesh. (highlighted green)

I wanted to take this shape carve it into the text underneath, reading "SALMON" (in blue) by using the "minus front" feature of the pathfinder.

However, the result only displayed the compound shape of the first letter of the word, with the rest of the word disappearing.

Can someone help me understand what happened, and what I can do to get the result I am looking for?

Thank you!

The letters must be one compound path and the lines must be anothzer compound path. Possibly they are both groups at the moment. Then you can use the pathfinder functions on them

Make sure that the outlined type is one entire compound path (not just a group consisting of separate compound paths).

Also, make sure that the white fat marbling is either one group or one compound path.

Then try again.

The text itself producing compound path and groups you simply may need to tackle this letter by letter. Some things cannot be achieved in one sweep, especially with complex paths.

SOLUTION:

Click on Object, GO TO Object, Path, REVERSE PATH DIRECTION.

Then go back to both objects, click both.  COMPOUND PATH.

Solution

This works in CorelDRAW and Adobe Illustrator.

Why this GLITCH happens from time to time in

both programs for "some" project files, DUNNO why.
