Direct Selection not working in AI 2025

I am brand new to Adobe everything. I am using Illustrator to design t-shirts. 

 

I struggle to modify geometry with the Direct Selection tool since every time I click it, it will switch to the Selection tool. I tried Ctrl+Shift+B, which worked temporarily on one design but not the other. I tried turning off Real-Time Drawing and Editing, which worked temporarily. I have been able to manipulate rectangles but not triangles. 

 

I have a 2022 Asus ROG Flow X16 and the newest version of Illustrator.

 

If there are any other significant updates, changes, or pointers that would be helpful for my device, please share them so I don't have to make more posts plz and thank you.

Can you make a screendump of your entire screen  with a selection and the fully expanded items in Layers panel?

Can you please describe exactly what you are doing?

Exactly what are you clicking on?

Exactly what are you trying to change?

Exactly what kind of object is it?

Are yoiu pressing any modifie keys?

I am clicking on anchor points of geometry objects with the direct selection tool. I am trying to manipulate the shapes sizes and angles of sides. I am not pressing any keys after selecting my tools.

Did you try to reset preferences from Preferences panel?
