all of my control features for snapping and smart guides have disappeared. I used to be able to highlight a path with the direct select tool and the handles would show and when I put my mouse over them it would snap and say "handle"

without highlighting the anchor point. I would also be able to snap handle to handle but it's gone.

for those of us who do technical illustration and really like a high level of control over the handles it's now been dumbed down.

how do I go back to what it was, this is not it
