Do I need to buy a new Imac.?

My IMac which I bought in 2018 says that I need macOS 14.6.1 or later for maximum performance. Does that mean that  all my colors in my projects will be different when printed off? Do I have to buy a new Imac?   If I buy a new Imac and upload all three of my Adobe apps ( Illustrator, Photoshop and Indesign) will my projects be able to have the correct colors or do I have to scan and enter all my illustrations all over again to get my correct colors in my illustrations?

How the colors perform has nothing to do with the version of OS you are working with. As long as you have consistent settings (particularly in Adobe apps), nothing shoukd change.

Hi Donna,

No worries, your colors won’t be messed up just because you’re not on macOS 14. As long as your color settings in Adobe apps stay the same, your prints should look fine. I’m also using Ventura with no issues for print work.

If your iMac is still running well, you probably don’t need a new one right away.

Good luck with your book! Sounds like a beautiful project!

@Donna Bell Not necessarily, but you might want to consider upgrading your macOS version if possible. It's hard to imagine that your 2018 iMac says that I need macOS 14.6.1 or later for maximum performance (only because my main computer is a 2013 late MacBook Pro i9).

Your 2018 iMac might be able to upgrade to a newer macOS version that meets or exceeds 14.6.1. macOS 14 is "Sonoma," and it supports iMacs from 2019 and later. However, some iMacs from 2017 and later are supported for macOS Ventura (13). If your 2018 iMac cannot upgrade to macOS Sonoma (14) or later, you would be limited to an older version of macOS. This doesn't mean your current projects will suddenly look "wrong," but it does mean you won't be getting the "maximum performance" that Adobe recommends, and you might eventually run into situations where newer features or more precise color handling in Adobe apps are unavailable to you.

If I Buy a New iMac and Upload All Three of My Adobe Apps, Will My Projects Be Able to Have the Correct Colors or Do I Have to Scan and Enter All My Illustrations All Over Again? Your projects should have the correct colors, and you absolutely do NOT have to scan and re-enter all your illustrations.

In the top-left hand corner, click on the Apple icon, and click on Software Updates. And it will either tell you need to update or not. "Maximum performance" primarily refers to the speed and efficiency of the software. Newer operating systems often have optimizations that allow applications to run faster, utilize hardware more effectively (like your GPU), and handle larger, more complex files with fewer slowdowns or crashes. You don't need to have all of the apps open either. I usually just have the ones I need, and if I notice the fan on, I close off some apps or the background streaming music.

Oh,My goodness… so I may not need a new computer. I have 55 watercolor illustrations that will have to be printed in a book using my Adobe Indesign for creating the book. I am so afraid that when the book is printed the colors will be all off.. I love my Adobe Apps. I use Illustrator , Indesign and Photoshop only and I always take a class at West Valley college just to learn more about each App. I try and take a class every year.
I went into my updates and its it’s updated to MacOS Ventura 13.76. I hope that’s ok.. I was so worried because I don’t have the macOS Sonoma 14.6.1version and thought that all my illustrations will come out printed in terrible colors. ( Will they ? ) I need to be sure..

Thankyou for getting back to me .. I may call Adobe Monday to be sure ..I have a 27 inch iMac and I love it and it works great with Adobe Apps.

Thank you,

Donna Bell
