Does Illustrator have a capability to trap this?

If I have a shape similar to this but more intricate, can illustrtaor create a trap by spliting the distance on the Black area?

Not sure why you are trying to accomplish this. As a prepress person, I see no need to do traps in such a matter. Can you elaborate?
