Question

Does Illustrator have shape primitives for the Symbols as Photoshop does?

For example diamond shape, moon, heart, etc. Default symbols sets are more complex. Things to speed up the workflow by saving having to make basic stuff.

You can easily copy any shapes you find in Photoshop and paste them into Illustrator.

When you draw a shape in Photoshop, look at the Mode drop down menu in the upper left corner of the Options bar with options for...

  • Path
  • Pixels

The closest thing that Illustrator has, aside from the basic shapes already mentioned, is the Symbols panel. You can choose various sets of Symbols from the Symbols panel menu.

Fastertrack,

You could create them yourself (just once, customized to your liking/need, then use them many times), or choose from out there,

and then make symbols.

Illustrator has some basic shapes (see the shape tools). But most of those it doesn't have. You can make some using effects. Others are easily constructed. Then build your own shape library.
