Question

Dot gradient not visible in pdf preview

I created with illustrator 29.3.1 a dot gradient which is not visible in the pdf preview. I tried with a texture with 4 colours and instead of the gradient I only see the 4 colours and no gradient.
This did not happen with the old versions. How can I solve it?

So you are using Apple Preview to check the PDF?

That is not a good idea.

But also: your gradient is a freeform gradient, which could give issues in some output scenarios. Íf you want to be sure that it works without having to check every 5 minutes with your print provider, you could apply the Effect Rasterize to it.

Make it a sufficient resolution.

That way the gradient is fully editable inside Illustrator, but rasterized in the output-.

Thank you for your answers.
I'm not using apple preview to check the work, only that even android phones display is the same as apple preview.

I tried rasterizing the gradient and it works, I was asking because with the previous version of illustrator it didn't generate this problem.

Anyway I attach a screenshot of what you can see from illustrator/acrobat and what comes out in preview and android smartphones.

PDF readers on smartphones can't probably be trusted with anything.

But if a correct rendering on the smartphone is important for you, then rasterizing the gradient would be your only option.

Hello @default54iizk776xk4,

I tried replicating this behavior on my end but could not. Would you mind confirming which application you're using to preview the PDF and sharing screenshots of the comparison between the two along with the OS version, so I can better assist you?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
