Double Click to Edit Text

Question

I'm working on a new project in Illustrator, and up until this point it was functioning as expected. Today, I can't double-click to edit text. Every other function wants to open, but I simply can't edit text. So bizarre. Help?

Apologies for the delayed response and thank you for the help! I ended up offloading some large files, uninstalling Adobe/shutting down/reinstalling. It started working afterward, fortunately! I had the latest version installed, previously, but after researching and trying all of the online tips, that seemed like the last option-- and it worked. This was only happening to AI.

Sorry to hear about this experience. Would you mind confirming if Illustrator is behaving this way with other files as well? Also, try resetting Illustrator's preferences by following the steps shared in this article (https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/troubleshoot-preference-issues.html) and sharing your observations.

Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with the defaults. You may take a backup of these settings from the location mentioned in the article.
