Drop Shadow Bitmap

I am working with a small image and a small dorpshadow and it is bitmapping.  Other than making the entire file larger, is there a way to overcome this so it is smooth?

Could you perhaps upload the actual file so we can see or show how the drop shadow waa created because I am unable to replacate your issue.

Go to Effect > Document Raster Effects Settings and change the resolution to a higher setting like 300 ppi.
