Duplication of artboard numbers - Illustrator 28.7.1

It's Sept 25, 2024, and Adobe Illustrator 28.7.1. still has the duplicate-artboard-numbering bug. Good news: The solution I've found that still works since AI 26 of yore is to quite AI, restart machine, open the AI file of issue, and voila - the artboard numbers are in the correct sequence. Bad news: You still have to deal with it.

Had this happen today for the first time (that I've noticed.)  AI 28.7.1, M3 Max, Sequioia 15.3.2

Our team has tried fixing this in the latest release of Illustrator 29.4. Would you mind updating to the latest version (https://adobe.ly/3ReKRuZ) to see if it helps resolve the problem?

Still not fixed.  Illustrator 29.5.1

Thanks for the update, and I'm really sorry to hear the issue is still persisting for you in Illustrator 29.5.1. 

Just to better understand the situation, could you please confirm your operating system version? Also, is this behavior limited to just this particular file, or have you noticed it happening across other projects as well?

If it's something you're able to reproduce consistently, it would be super helpful if you could share a quick screen recording of the full workflow that leads to the artboard number duplication. That will really help us get a clearer picture and pass it along to the product team for deeper investigation.

    If it happens again I'm happy to post screenshots. Again these are giant AI files with 200+ artboards where the duplication in artboard numbering occurs. There's plenty of copy/paste artboards going on with the file.

    There are plenty of posts and screenshots of this same issue you can find yourself within past posts in the community. There is a litany of history with the issue.
