Enable Arabic in Ai CC?

Hello,

I hope someone can give me a clear answer, Adobe support was no support at all. In Ai CS6 all you had to do is enable Arabic in the preferences through the Adobe Applications Manager and reinstal an updated version of Ai without the need to purchase a Middle East version. When I upgraded to CC it appeared to be the same, however when I opened Ai after going through a similar procedure, there was no left-to-right capabilities for the Type tool nor in the Paragraphs options. However InDesign CC does have these capabilities and it worked quite easily.

After the Adobe Support tech ran me through the same process I already did, she tried to tell me that I have to purchase a ME version of CC but I'd have to go to Best Buy or a 3rd party to purchase it because Adobe doesn't sell it online. Firstly, why didn't she say this from the start? Secondly, does that make sense that CC or "Creative Cloud" which is online based services is not available online but in retail stores???? Adobe.com has 2 different pages listing specs for CC, one does not show Arabic language support for it (http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/tech-specs.html) while the main page featuring Ai does show it (http://www.adobe.com/products/illustrator/tech-specs.html), although it says in a ME version. But in CS6, ME was integrated into the apllications so has Adobe reverted to previous practices of seperate versions for other languages? I hope not, this was a wonderful advantage and feature!

Any clarity on this is much appreciated!

Correct answer Monika Gause

Try and activate the Indic type support in preferences.

Then in paragraph panel select the arabic & indic type composer.

Also align right.

Does that work for you?

In Adobe Illustrator CC

Go PREFERENCES > TYPE > SHOW INDIC OPTIONS : check it.

Restart Illustrator.

In Photoshop CC

Go PREFERENCES > TYPE > Choose Text Engine Options > Middle Eastern and South Asian.

Restart Photoshop.

You will need to install an Arabic enabled version of Illustrator.
