Envelope Distort Filling Shape Oddly

Hello. I'm very new to illustrator and I'm having trouble with the envelope function. I wrap to top object and I made sure it was above the text but when it wraps it crams up the text. I assumed it had to do with fitting the Q but something similar happened when I tried text with no hangning letters. Help would greatly be apprectiated, it took me forever just to get the feature to work at all really since I'm so new. Thanks for your time.
