Eraser tool making shapes

My eraser tool is making a black circle. I turned off the fill and stroke and it's still happening. Haven't seen this problem listed anywhere when I googled it. Thanks.

The Eraser Tool may work quite differently from what you expect, and maybe other Tools such as the Scissors Tool will be better suited.
