Hello everyone,

We have seen multiple reports of a script error related to Photoshop and the following workarounds have fixed it for many users.
1) Uninstall (remove preferences) and Reinstall Photoshop

Disclaimer: Please note that renaming preferences folders will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also save a backup of the folders, the location of which is mentioned here.

2) Open the JSX file in a text editor, which is available at
"/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Startup Scripts CC/Adobe Photoshop/" for macOS
 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe" and "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe" for Windows

Add } in the last line, save the JSX file, and relaunch Illustrator.

Also, could you please upvote this UserVoice (https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-desktop-bugs/suggestions/49667915-error-in-startup-script-line-2798-no-matching) and add your comments there. Doing this will help us prioritize this request, and you will be notified of any updates.

Please let us know if you are still having trouble with this, and we will do our best to help you.

Hi @Oscar5C13 this seems to be a problem introduced by the latest Photoshop Beta. Uninstalling it should fix. If not, search this forum for similar posts.

I was hoping someone could help me with this error code I receive when trying to open Adobe Illustrator 2025 (29.4) on my 24 inch Imac 2023 M3 running Sequoia 15.3.2. Illustrator opens fine and seems to operate OK. I just keep getting the same error code as seen in the screen capture every time I launch the app.

Try if uninstalling Photoshop Beta works.

I uninstalled Photoshop 2025 and it has seemed to clear up the problem.

Thanks @Ton Frederiks
the workaround 1 deleted the errors. Your solution doesn't seem... it is! 😎. Thank you 🙏

Solution

  • Workaround 1:
    • Uninstall Photoshop 26.5 (make sure to remove preferences).
    • Reinstall Photoshop 26.5. This will install the correct “photoshop_v2025.jsx”.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

Hey folks! Updated my Photoshop to the last version this morning, now i'm getting this illustrator error.
It started after updating.

Error in /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Startup Scripts CC/Adobe Photoshop/photoshop_v2025.jsx ///  Line 2798: {

No matching closing brace found"

This is due to a description error in "photoshop_v2025.jsx”.
However, this is a bit strange since no error message was displayed until In the past.

Left is "photoshop_v2025.jsx”, right is "photoshop_v2024.jsx”

There is no description that corresponds to

e.line);

}

of 2025.

My 2025 shows

{
// Debugging
// alert (e + ": line " + e.line);
}

It looks like the Photoshop beta created this problem (I did not install that beta) and maybe the Photoshop  26.5.0 update today helped.

I had the same issue. I uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop Beta, and the scripts in Bridge started working again 👍 Just wanted to share that.

Thank you very much, in this way it was solved (at least in my case). Win11 + Photoshop beta.
Illustrator starts correctly.

I had this issue starting Illustrator and InDesign, running on Windows 11 Home. I also had Photoshop Beta installed. All updates installed. The folder 'Adobe Photoshop' did not exist in 'Startup Scripts CC'.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Illustrator and InDesign but the issue persisted. I uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop Beta and the issue was resolved. The folder 'Adobe Photoshop' now exists in 'Startup Scripts CC'.

Hello @m1b ,

I need some help with a script. Could you please assist me?

Is there any scripting possibility to adjust this dialog box in Photoshop?

@punit_9859 for questions about Photoshop scripting please ask on the Photoshop forum.

By the way, did you solve the "msising Brace" problem you reported here?

Yes, the problem was solved. I reinstalled Illustrator, and the issue has not occurred since.

@brittanyf28238571 are you running a script when the error occurs? Or does it appear when you launch Illustrator or Indesign? Can you then use the app normally?

My expertise is scripting, so if it is a script that is missing a brace and can show you where it needs to go, but I'd need to see the script, of course.

I'm also having this issue when I launch Illustrator.
