Error making artboard [branched]

I'm getting an error making the artboard if I adjust the rectangle any way: "To create Artboards, select non-rotated rectangles that are not clipping masks." If I don't adjust any of the anchorpoints, it makes the artboard just fine. If I made the rectangle perfect the first time, I wouldn't have a problem. But of course, it always needs refinement, but if I do, it won't convert to an artboard 😕

Maybe a workaround....

make adjustments to your rectangle as needed, draw a NEW rectangle over it, making sure it snaps to the same size, use this NEW one to make create artboard?

I am having exact same problem all day today, but mine I type in size by "Alt-Clicking rectangle tool" so it is exact size but when I go to make it an artboard i get same error, even though I have never rotated, of used this brand new, just made rectangle for a clipping mask or anything.

VERY frustrating.

Thank you so much. This wasn't an issue in AI 2023. Hope someone from Adobe is reading this.

Exactly what do you have selected. You need to select only the rectangle. Nothing else. And also this rectangle must not be rotated or a clipping mask.
