Error: "File has been edited outside of Illustrator" while opening files in Ai 2020 on macOS Mojave

New Here ,
Nov 12, 2019 Nov 12, 2019

I recently updated to Illustrator v 24.0 running MacOS Mojave and I'm getting this alert almost every time I save since I updated. The files are on the Google server, and I think it happens when I have a linked image in the file (image also on Google Drive).

Same here with Google Drive. But only for some files.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing with Illustrator. I would request if you can share a few more details like:

  1. Is the issue related to a specific document?
  2.  Could you please try to turn off the synch for the Google drive and then check again if you are still getting this notification?

Regards

Rishabh

I notice that it doesn't happen when I'm working on a file saved on my computer. But when the file is on a Google Drive it's really sporadic, even on the same file... sometimes it comes up, other times it doesn't.

I just got word that this is fixed in the 24.0.1 release?

Hi there,

Thanks for sharing the details. Illustrator does not support network or removable drives as scratch disks, or folders of file sync services such as Dropbox, Google Drive, and icloud  because when you save and open files across a network or from removable media, many variables affect application performance. (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/kb/illustrator-support-networks-removable-media.html).

From my personal experience, I would suggest a few things which you may try:

  • Are the files saved on a shared folder? If yes, could you please save the file on a different location in Google drive and check if that helps.
  • Check if this is happening with your user account only or with multiple users.
  • Restart your system and reset preferences for Illustrator.

Try these steps to reset preferences:

  • Close all Adobe applications.
  • Go to locations
  • ~/Library/Caches
  • ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe
  • ~/Library/Preferences
  • Rename  Adobe Illustrator, com.adobe.illustrator and Adobe Illustrator 24 Settings folders to   Adobe Illustrator.old, com.adobe.illustrator.old and Adobe Illustrator 24 Settings.old
  • Launch Illustrator from the Creative Cloud.

Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and Illustrator will launch with default settings. This way all your old settings will be saved in .old folders and Illustrator will recreate new folders with default settings.

As of now, v(24.0.1) is released only in Germany, Canada, France, Italy, India, Australia, Netherlands. It will be rolled out to all geos soon. For more details, please take a look at this post:  https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator/new-update-for-illustrator-24-0-1/td-p/10757029

If you are not from the countries mentioned above, you can download it from our pre-release portal: https://www.adobeprerelease.com/

Regards,

Srishti
