I can't seem to use image trace in illustrator - I get the following message. "the operation cannot complete
because of unknown error (UKCO)"
Does anyone have any idea, thanks in advance.

There was an update today to 27.3.1 (check regularely, maybe not yet everywhere available), that fixed the Image Trace problem for me.
Yes - Live trace (Bildnachzeichner) in german version 27.3.1 is also working again! (mac)
Great news! We're thrilled to hear that the issue with Image Trace has been resolved with the latest update, v27.3.1. Thank you, @Ton Frederiks and @peterk6392879, for taking the time to install the update and confirming that everything is working smoothly again.
We encourage all users to update to the latest version and to let me or @Anubhav M know if they continue to experience any issues.
Best,
Anshul Saini

I don't have any other problems, so I would recommend this update. Remember, if it does not work for you, you can always go one big version back. Or leave the previous version installed. I still have 2022 installed next to 2023.

Hi. I tried to use my Image Trace in the latest version, and the preset option only allowed one preset... auto tracing! The only variations were in the 'Mode' field, i.e. black and white, colour, grayscale. For me, that is a gamechanger, as I draw alot of my work and vectorise my line drawings, and Sketched art was the perfect option, which all of a sudden there is no longer that option.
So I installed the previous version, however, now even though the old preset options are showing, when I click on 'Trace' (which only appears when I untick 'Preview'), nothing happens! There is no change to the raster file, and Preview becomes 'ticked' again. Can you please advise how I now get Image trace to work properly? Thank you.

Hi, as I cannot edit my original comment, please disregard from 'So I installed the previous version', as I figured it out. However, the original question about the latest version not giving preset options still stands. Thank you.

thank god I'm not the only one who ran into problems with the new image trace - it's absolutely terrible...downright unusable. It automatically chooses what it thinks should be the right preset, and doesn't let you actually edit it the way you would've on your own previously. Image trace was fine before; now it's just frustrating & if you have an image with any white area it will just automatically blend it into a white background...then if you hit "ignore white" it'll remove the background and the white part of the image. really, really annoying.....
(screenshot is of 1. original image - "bc racing," 2. traced (no ignore white), 3. traced + ignore white)

I am just chiming in here. The latest version of Illustrator (27.4.1) is still broken. This is an unbelievable mess. Each iteration of the leading Adobe apps that designers have been using for decades are becoming flakier, more bloated and more needlessly glitchy. This is just appalling software as a service.
I am genuinely baffled how this basic functionality passed Quality Assurance being so obviously broken.
Pathetic.

"baffled how this basic functionality passed Quality Assurance"
That's actually been moved from in-house to user...

I'll chime in too...I'm afraid to tell you @Anubhav Majumder & @Anshul_Saini that Image Trace is sadly still completely broken in 27.4.1. I'm getting this error message...
I've just had to revert back to 27.2 before it was fixed ...causing me headaches and delays on a couple of very time-sensitive projects!
It's crucial to my work - would appreciate it being sorted as a matter of priority please!

Please tell us your hardware specifications.
Also: you could try and reset the preferences (which would of course erase all your settings)

Hello,
I deleted all Adobe programs and installed the latest versions from the beginning. (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, PremierPro) The problem still persists. I'm preparing a presentation and there are serious problems because I can't progress right now. Please I would be very happy if you could help.

Thank you.
So 16 GB of RAM is sufficient to run Illustrator, but also it's not a lot.
Do you have issues with all files?
With launching Illustrator?
Or is it just one specific file?
