Error when creating Area Type

Hi there,

I am trying to create an Area Type with the Area Type Tool but I get an error "You must click on a non-compound, non-masking path to create text inside a path".

There is nothing else on the artboard, it is a clean, new artboard.

I am actually following a tutorial, and they seem to be using the tool without any issues.  I am clearly missing something here.

    Correct answer Doug A Roberts

    the area type tool is for inserting text into existing objects. if you want to use regular area type, use the standard type tool and drag out an area.
