Escape key no longer working in Illustrator

My escape key is no longer working in Illustrator. I have tried all the fixes found in the forum but to no avail.

You've tried a complete restart, too? I know that sounds obvious, but a lot of people just relaunch the app and assume everything will be ok, but it may be the OS that's causing the issue. Also, if you have a tablet connected, disconnect it, wait about ten-fifteen seconds and reconnect.

If this doesn't work, can you come back with some details around your OS and machine, please? It's easier to help with that information on something like this.

I've restarted my computer. Uninstalled and reinstalled Illustrator and all my other Adobe apps. Then restarted my computer again.

I'm using the latest version of Illustrator.

Here are the specs on my OS and machine.

Please try resetting preferences for Illustrator.

Close all Adobe applications.

~/Library/Caches

~/Library/Application Support/Adobe

~/Library/Preferences

Delete or rename  Adobe Illustrator, com.adobe.illustrator and Adobe Illustrator 22 Settings folders.

Launch Illustrator from the creative cloud.

Does the Escape key work in other applications?

Does the Escape key work in Illustrator if you use a different keyboard?

What if you put this keyboard on another computer that has Illustrator installed? Does it work there?

The escape works in all other applications.

I tested all the function keys and they are working. I have used to external keyboards and the escape does not work for illustrator on either on of those keyboards. But does work in other applications.

Just in case they've somehow been damaged, could you make a duplicate of the current Keyboard Shortcuts, and try using those?

Just tried that. Didn't change anything.

Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (macOS) as you start Illustrator. This will reset your preferences, however.

The Escape key does several things in Illustrator. Maybe it will help us if you tell us some of the things you are doing where it does not work and what happens instead.
