Expand Appearance to 3D image

There are new many layers added into layer panel once I applied Expand Appearance to 3D image of "A" text. Is it is possible to explain reason for that?

Those are the underlying constructs Illustrator uses to create the appearance. If they don't affect anything, you can ungroup/release/delete them.
