Export PDF to DWG Plans - creating png files

New Here ,
Jul 27, 2023 Jul 27, 2023

When I export files from a PDF to a DWG on Illustrator (I am working on architectural plans with sometimes a lot of details), it creates a .dwg file but also a lot of .png images. There are often a lot of them (images of a line sometimes) and it takes ages to load.

I would like to know if it's possible to deactivate an option or anything to have just the lines in the export file.

Thank you for your help

Hi @Fani.ry,

Thank you for reaching out. To better understand the issue, could you please share a screenshot of the export settings you are using when exporting from PDF to DWG in Illustrator? This will help us identify any specific options that might be causing the generation of additional .png images.

Additionally, I would like to know if this issue is occurring with other files as well, or is it specific to this particular file? If possible, could you share the file with us so that we can investigate the problem further on our end? If yes, you can upload it to the Creative Cloud (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html) and share the download link here.

Please also confirm the version of Illustrator you are using, as it may help in troubleshooting the issue.

Looking forward to your response, and we'll do our best to assist you.

Best regards,

Anshul Saini

Hello, it's been a while sorry,

I found a way to export only the lines in the file: by releasing all clipping masks and ungrouping the groups, I filtered for images in the layer panel and by selecting, I can delete them all at once.

I would still like to know if there are other methods, rather than exploding all the clipping masks and groups one by one.

Here is the export panel (sorry, i'm using the app in french)

I thank you in advance for your assistance.

Thank you for updating us on your progress and sharing your workaround for exporting only the lines in your DWG file. Releasing all clipping masks and ungrouping the groups before filtering and deleting the images is a practical solution, although it can be time-consuming for files with many elements.

Regarding your inquiry about alternative methods, unfortunately, in some formats like DXF or DWG, if your Illustrator file contains a lot of grouped or clipped objects, the export process may result in additional image files being generated. This behavior is due to how Illustrator handles certain elements during export to get the best outcome.

Your approach of manually releasing masks and ungrouping objects is currently the most effective method to ensure that only the desired lines are exported. However, I understand that this process can be tedious, especially for complex architectural plans.

Thank you for your understanding, and please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions or concerns.

Best regards,

Anshul Saini
