Exported SVG scene not full screen

Hello,

I have exported svgs and used them in web design numerous times. For the first time, I created an entire scene in svg and exported it to display in my browser. It looks just as it should, only, when I go into full-screen mode, there is a white bar above and below my scene. It doesn't truly go full screen. Is there something I need to set in Illustrator, before exporting, so that it will cover the entire screen? Thanks so much for any help you can offer.

Those aren't the same aspect ratio. You would need to make your SVG 1368 x 769.5 to get rid of any letterboxing (and that half-pixel might cause a gap somewhere anyway). Does it need to be the size you specified for some reason?

Depending on the artwork, this kind of thing is typically handled in one of several ways:

  • Have the entire SVG artwork scale to fit the browser window (allowing non-proportional scaling).
  • Have just a "background" object within the SVG artwork (only the background object scales non-proportionally to "fill" the screen).
  • Simply have a background color set for the web page (or frame) that displays the SVG artwork.

As Monika said, you cannot do those things in Illustrator. You would edit the SVG or HTML. There are many online SVG reference and tutorial sites at which you can get your feet wet in how to do that.

Adding a background color is a quick fix, thank you for that. But in the future, when I design another full-screen scene, is there something I can set in Illustrator so that when I export it, it will display in the browser as a true full-screen?

Did you try to open svg in different browsers? What type of browser you use?

I am using Chrome. I just tried IE - same issue.

I assume you could some HTML/CSS construction that always display it full screen without distorting it, but you can't do that inside Illustrator.

What are the pixel dimension of the SVG and what is the resolution of your screen?
