Eyedropper not picking up gradient, opacity and colour mode.

Since I've updated my Mac mini (M1, 2020) to macOS Ventura (v13.2) my Adobe Illustrator 2023 has been giving multiple issues. The most annoying issue is the eyedropper tool that seems to have stopped working properly.

Firstly when I use the eyedropper tool while in GPU preview I don't get the same colour. I have no problem picking correct colours using CPU Preview. I also have no issue picking colours in GPU Preview when using my LG desktop screen instead of my Wacom Cintiq (Pro 24P).

Secondly the eyedropper tool doesn't pick up any effects such as gradients, opacity and colour modes like multiply or overlay. It only picks a shade, but nothing else. Extremely frustrating.
I've never used shift or alt when using the eyedropper tool nor have I changed any settings. Yet now for some reason when trying to eyedrop a gradient, I get the exact colour of a pixel instead of the gradient. Using shift doesn't make any difference.

Thirdly the eyedropper tool changes to a darker shade every single click. When using GPU Preview I go from #c84a4a to #b9534e in a single click, whilst clicking 10 times the colour is changed to #6b6865. That's absurd, is it not?

I included some screenshots of the changes in colour when using different previews. In addition there's a screenshot of the settings. For some reason when I check appearances I can't expand the menu, expanding the menu automatically unchecks the box.

Is there anyone experiencing similar problems? Please help, this is seriously giving issues in my daily work as an illustrator.

Here's an example of not being able to use the eyedropper tool to pick a gradient:

Can you double click the eyedropper tool and then check both the topmost checkboxes?

I can, but unfortunately it changes nothing 😞

Checking both boxes even makes it unable to colour pick with the eyedropper. Only when I shift-click a colour gets picked, but still no effect/mode such as a gradient or multiply.

Is the artwork grouped? or anything special?

ANd since resetting the preferences didn't help: can you upload that document to Creative Cloud, Dropbox or the like for download and testing?

If that is not possible: please show screenshots of the selected object, the layers panel (with the object in it) and the appearance panel. Also the same for the object you want to apply this gradient to.

Hello @Fabienne_Doczero,

Sorry to hear about this experience. Would you mind recalibrating your monitor for sRGB, checking if Illustrator has access to Screen Recording under System Preferences, and relaunching Illustrator to check if it helps?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Anubhav

Hello @Fabienne_Doczero,

Thanks for confirming that. Would you mind trying to run Illustrator under a different administrator account (https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/add-a-user-or-group-mchl3e281fc9/mac) and checking if it helps? Also, kindly verify if Illustrator also behaves this way with other files. If not, kindly share a sample file here (https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/share-your-files-in-6-simple-steps/td-p/12967...), so that we can investigate this further.

Looking forward to your response.

Regards.
