Fetch data set name from file

Community Beginner ,

When importing a csv to illustrator using the variables window, each line in my csv gets names "data set 1" , "data set 2" etc. I know it's possible to manually change these names once imported, but is there any way for them to be automatically named when imported?

My goal here is to easily create several hundred variations of a logo by changing a text field in the logo with different geographical names. So far, so good. However, I'd like the filenames to also be correct when exported and not just named "data set 1", "data set 2" etc.

I hope my question is understandable.

vasily wrote an awesome script to import data sets. It includes auto naming, give it a try.

Hi. What about change the Data set names in the Variables panel before the saving or exportation?

That is indeed a possibility, but then I must change them one by one manually. What I'd like is if that could be automated since I want the files named after what the data set output is.

Thank you! This worked like a charm! Too bad this isn't a standard feature.

Please visit the site https://illustrator.uservoice.com/ and request Adobe contact me to work together for bringing this specific script into native feature set. Maybe one day they will be open to a collaboration.

Edit: the operative words being "Contact me" (Vasily) - not do it anyways and not contact me 🙂

@CarlosCanto @Silly-V Is it also possible to create a custom name for data sets?

I have a bulk data variables with me for a design file in illustrator.

I want to custom name it without the data from the variables.

Is there a way to do it?

So, for example;

My Variable1 is John

Variable2 is Math.

But I want to name the file as 1001-John

Is there any solution for it?

Thanks
