File Suddenly Darker?

Hi, I opened a file that I haven't opened in awhile and the entire thing looks like the opacity is set to 20% but it isn't. It has like a dark screen over it and I have no idea what is causing it. I tried disabling one group at a time and nothing seems to be causing it and the opacity is set to 100% on all groups and layers.

Has anyone experienced this before?

The "hack" that Monika mentioned is causing this.

Turn off File > Document Setup > Simulate Colored Paper

So I actually "fixed" it. I just copied all the elements to a new document and it's fine now. I don't know if the layer is bugged but I noticed it didn't have the screen over it when I disabled the entire layer. I tried simply creating a new layer, but whatever setting or bug seems to be applying to any new layer created.

When I created a new document and simply copied all the groups over, it is fine now. I have no idea what this is but at least it wasn't too much of a pain to copy and paste. Sorry to bother you all.

Can you share that file (or at least the elements that show the problem)?

CC Filesharing, DropBox, Google, WeTransfer...

Thanks, there must be something with your system (GPU/CPU Preview? (CMD/Ctrl E)).

Looks fine over here.

What does the layers panel show? What does the appearance panel show? How is color management set uüp? Which color profile is applied to the file?  How is soft proof set up? Do you have a "background color" set up in the file using that hack that some people propagate?

  1. See below for layers and groups.
  2. Like I said, the appearance panel shows 100% opacity on all layers, groups, and images.
  3. Color management is set to RGB like I always set it.
  4. Color profile is set to what it is for every other image I have no issues with. I included SS below.
  5. I have no idea what soft proof is and I have never touched those settings.
  6. Hack? Propagate? I have no idea what you're talking about so no, I do not.

Thanks

One thing I should also mention is the thumbnail for the file does not show this issue:
