File us bot recognized by Illustrator

I have a file from a version of Illustrator older than the one I currently have, but this new version
doesn't want to open the document. The legend is that it is not a recognizable file.
Do you have any idea how I can recover the contents of the file?

Just how old is the file?

Where is it currently stored? If on a network or in a synchronized folder, first copy it to the harddisk, then try to open it.

How do you open it? By double clicking? Try Illustrator File > Open

Did someone send it to you via email? Ask them to first zip it and then send again.

Without any specific info about the version of the file, your system and so on nobody can tell you much. That notwithstanding, there is simply a plethora of bugs currently that may prevent files from being opened, sometimes platform-specific, sometimes based on version. Just installing a previous version of AI, e.g. 2021 instead of the current may resolve the issue and similarly, opening a file created on a Mac on a Windows machine may work and so on.
