Hello, my files from both illustrator and indesign are printing only in bitmap. In the print dialogue under advanced, I uncheck bitmap, but in the print summary it says it's still active. My printer does have postscript capabilities.

The issue has been solved! It ended us that when I added the printer in the first place I didn't select adobe postscript printer in the drop down.

The colored print looks like halftone screening.
I'm not sure about the second image. How does that look when you print the file from Acrobat?

In that case you might want to contact the printer manufacturer whether their printer driver is compatible with your version of Illustrator.

I contacted the printer manufacturer and they suggested installing the latest print driver for my mac, so I did and restarted my mac, but the issue is the same. I don't believe it's an issue with the printer because when I tried printing to that same printer from indesign on a windows pc the it did allow me to turn off bit map.

Having the same issue with 2/3 printers here at work... Wasn't a huge issue, when I had a secondary BW machine to print to, but we just replaced the color machine (Ricoh Pro C53000S).
- I don't have a CMYK print option
- Print as Bitmap defaults to checked
- No PPD shown in the print dialog (Ricoh printers)
- Printing from PDF (Acrobat) is just fine
Gonna have our IT guy look at this on Monday, but any help would be appreciated. This has been driving me crazy for the last year... Exporting everything to PDF isn't a great workaround.

Just a quick follow up - this had everything to do with how the printer was set up on my Mac. I needed to use the IP address of the printer (found on the printer) and set the driver manually vs using the auto-install. Once I did that, everything was just fine.
