Find and Replace issue

Hello!

Here is my issue with illustrator Find and Replace. Everytime I need to replace several texts in illustrator I must click DONE after every replacement which shuts the window and I need to reopen it in order to continue replacing the rest of my text.

Also once the window is open I cannot copy any text from my document, I need to first copy the text and then open Find and Replace. So it is a process where I keep shuting and reopening the same window in order to replace my text.

In InDesign that is not the case, the window stays open after you replace the text and you can easily copy and paste text while the window is open.

Also if there is an option to add the window at the dock will be lovely.

Thank you

The search and replace possibilities in InDesign are almost unlimited. As a layout programme, InDesign must be able to do such editing, whereas Illustrator, as a graphics and illustration programme, does not have the full range of text editing options. Otherwise, you would only need one programme - the "egg-laying wool-milk-pig" (German flying word for all-rounder).

Text-heavy layouts are created in InDesign.

Illustrator is responsible for the graphics-heavy illustrations.

Of course, you could prepare your texts elaborately in InDesign and simply copy the finished text into Illustrator. Or you could use the method from @Met1 . Or use one of the numerous search and replace scripts.

Or actually run a query on Uservoice. Personally, I can't imagine much chance of success, as Illustrator is not really designed for text editing - but who knows ...

I get around this by having a text file open with the know changes, then just alt-tab between text app and Illy...

You do not need to click Done after every replacement.

You can click "replace all" to enact on multiple instances of the same change or click "Replace" to change one then edit your parameters and click replace again.

Clicking "Done" means you are finished with find and replace. The other options keep the window open.

The ability to select text while the frame is open is not available at this time, but you can vote up or add an idea here:
