font face setting on a paragraph of text with English and Chinese

just updated to illustrator 2017 and this problem appear.

I have a paragraph of text with English text and Chinese text.

I want the English text and Chinese text using different font face.

I first set the paragraph with a Chinese font face, then set it with another English font face.

I expected only numbers or English characters are updated with the English font, but all characters switched to the English font.

since the English font cannot display Chinese characters, the Chinese text becomes Squares.....

this doesn't happen on previous version ai, or the latest photoshop.

any quick fix?

    Hi jh,

    Please make sure that you have the Chinese Fonts installed and active. Does they appear as missing fonts? Please share screenshots for better understanding.

    screenshot below:

    1. a paragraph of text with a part using English font face

    2. another part using Chinese font

    3. changing the font of the whole paragraph

    4. selection confirmed

    (I previously have "Enalbe Missing Glyph Protection" unchecked, so my result was the same as screen 3)

    I am having the same problem.  Anyone have a fix on that?
