Hi,
I am a new designer and want to use the font Bodoni 72 smallcaps book for my products. I would like
to know if I need to purchase a separate license for this font.
I have checked Adobe Fonts and found that they are clear for both personal and commercial use. However, I couldn't find Bodoni 72 Smallcaps in this list (https://helpx.adobe.com/fonts/using/fonts-included-with-creative-suite.html), although it is a built-in font when I installed illustrator.
I also found that bodoni 72 is an open source font (https://indestructibletype.com/Bodoni.html, please correct me if I am wrong!), but I was wondering if the Smallcaps feature of the font requires a separate license.
Thank you very much!

Hello @Xinyuan38338910ii3z,
Thanks for reaching out. The font mentioned is covered under the SIL Open Font License (https://adobe.ly/3WWB14x), and you can buy the font from here: (https://adobe.ly/3WELZdg).
Feel free to reach out if you have more questions or need assistance. We'd be happy to help.
Thanks,
Anubhav

Hi Anubhav,
Thank you so much for the reply!!
I am curious if Bodoni 72 Smallcaps, which is available in illustrator, is also clear for commercial use, like the Bodoni 72. It seems that I couldn't find the licensing information for the smallcaps feature of this font in adobe. Does that mean the samllcaps feature do not require a separate license? Is there any way to check the licensing information of adobe built-in fonts? I found this website (https://helpx.adobe.com/sg/fonts/using/font-licensing.html) but it doesn't say which fonts are covered.
Thanks again for your help!

Looks like a font from MacOS

Indeed. It's in the System folder in an Additional folder.
Here is a list of the fonts provided by Apple:
https://support.apple.com/en-us/103203
The document does not contain any info about the kind of license Apple has. They have licensed the Bodoni font from ITC according to the Font info

Thank you both very much for the reply! That helps a lot. I thought all fonts in illustrator are provided by adobe, no wonder I couldn't find that in adobe fonts.
Just for other people who use macOS and have similar questions about preinstalled fonts.
I found this document https://www.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/macOSCatalina.pdf
and on page 2 it says:
E. Fonts. Subject to the terms and conditions of this License, you may use the fonts included with the Apple Software to display and print content while running the Apple Software; however, you may only embed fonts in content if that is permitted by the embedding restrictions accompanying the font in question. These embedding restrictions can be found in the Font Book/Preview/Show Font Info panel.
And in macOS Font Book, I found this font's copyright info. There is no embedding restrictions for this font and it is not copy protected.
