Question

Font menu too small CC 2015

Mac OS X 10.11.6

CC 2015.3

Why is the font drop-down menu so small compared to the available screen space? And I see no way to expand the menu.

I want to see all the font options I can at one time. I don't remember this problem in previous versions.

Hi rcraighead,

There is hope, mine goes from top to bottom of screen

2015.3

Mac OS 10.10.5

My thoughts are maybe El Capitan might has something to do with this or possibly installed with a lower res monitor initially, or maybe a plug in conflict.  in any case try:

Reset Your Preferences.

Cmd-Opt-Ctrl-Shift when restarting AI on a Mac or Alt-Crtl-Shift on a PC to reset to the defaults.

More Thorough Reset Your Preferences.

Quit Illustrator

Finder >> Shift Command G

~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator 21 Settings/en_US*/Adobe Illustrator Prefs

rename Adobe Illustrator 21 to Adobe Illustrator 21 old

Reset Your Other Preferences

Quit Illustrator

Finder >> Shift Command G

~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator 21/

rename Adobe Illustrator 21 to Adobe Illustrator 21 old

Press Win+R -> appdata -> Roaming -> Adobe -> rename folder Adobe Illustrator 20 (or 21) Settings to any other name.

Now on the type  >> find font we are all stuck with the small window and very aggravating.

mike, we're talking about the font menu in the character panel/control bar.

Thanks Doug, looks like the original screenshot is from the control bar at the top. For me that cannot be made larger either, sorry for any confusion on my part.

actually i kinda remember it being even smaller in CS5?

edit: just checked on a colleague's machine. it was about ten fonts high in CS5!

I don't have a solution, but as for the behaviour in CS5 I cannot confirm that it is only 10 fonts high. In my CS5 version the menu extends to the entire vertical space on the screen (both on OS 10.6.8 and 10.12.3).
