Fonts changing in files when opened in Illustrator 29.5.1

I've experienced this twice now, both times in the last month. I design beer labels and I'll often open an older label and use it as the template for a new one. When I open the older file (an .AI file), it will load, and most of the live text will have switched to a different font arbitrarily. Some fonts switch to OTHER typefaces that exist in the same document, others switch to different weights of the same font, and still others switch to defaults like times and myriad.  Some of the switched fonts are stored locally, and others are served via Adobe Fonts. The file does this consistently even after I've restarted illustrator and restarted my computer.

I've attached a screenshot of one of the files with its original fonts (from an outlined version for print), as well as a shot with the changed fonts.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Hello everyone,

Our team has attempted to resolve this issue in the latest Illustrator 30.x and 29.x releases. Kindly update to the latest version of Illustrator and try opening your files to see if the problem persists.

The question remains. Hvae you confidently identified the issue that was causing it in the first place? And therefore been able to make the necessary code changes so it doesn't happen again. I appreciate that the illustartor code is probably an absolute behemoth nightmare of bodges, bolt ons and work arounds as it's never been rewritten from the ground up, but only 'developed'. But despite that I'm hoping your coders can give some level of confidence that a bug with such a core functionality has been identifies and sorted. Saying attempted is hardly confidence inspiring! If you do font critical work for print your latest version is still to be avoided until you can give us some assurance it's resolved.

So, to paraphrase what you said:  “ We called up the best of our Adobe tech coder cavalry and they ATTEMPTED to fix the random font substitution bug in Adobe Illustrator that has been going on for several months, costing Adobe customers thousands of dollars in lost time and possibly costing them clients".

To paraphrase a quote from Pulp Fiction, this is what we need to hear:  “You ain’t got no problem folks.  We are on the mofo.  Install Adobe Illustrator 30.0, chill out, and get back to work without any fear of the devastating random font substitution bug".

Adobe - "attempted to resolve this issue" is not the response we were hoping for, or the confidence in the upgrade. Paying customers have been losing valuable time and revenue for 5+ months now, in the midst of a price increase none the less. How has this not been confidently resolved?

I understand that you are just following a directive from Adobe however as you are payed for your time Adobe's customers also need to make a living. Adobe MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for insuring that this font substitution issue is fixed! It is not up to your customers to waste there time and money testing the your software, it is not 1985. Just go to your local Apple store buy 10 macs configure them in various ways and test them yourself. Then release the update notifying your paying customers that it has been fixed!!
