Fonts display correctly - but don't appear in font menu

I'm having an issue where another artist will send me an Ai file. The fonts will display correctly - but don't appear in font menu. Any ideas on how to fix this? I use Overlord to send assets to Ae a lot, and this is causing a big problem in my workflow.

Maybe this feature? Fonts Preview correctly even when they are missing. Outline seems to help.

This dialogue box doesn't appear, Illustrator seems quite happy with the fonts. It just won't display the name of the font in the character window.

Do you have those fonts installed in your system?

Hi there, yes I do. Sometimes the fonts appear twice though? One in brackets, one not. May be a clue?

Are they Adobe Fonts?

Do you use font management?

Is this Mac or Windows?
