Im using nexusfonts as font manager, im working for tens different brands and i dont want to install hundres of fonts so i activate/deactivate fonts to suits my specific needs. Since this last version of illustrator, when i was selecting a different font collection from nexusfont, illustrator saw the new activated fonts and updated them in the documents. Now it doesn't do this anymore and I have to close and reopen illustrator with the collection activated in nexusfont everytime im switchig between different clients documents. It's very annoying and I would like to know if there is a solution for this. Thanks! 🙂
Hello everyone,
Our team has attempted to fix this issue in the latest Illustrator (Beta) release. Would you mind installing the latest Illustrator (Beta) (https://adobe.ly/46FEut6) to see if it helps resolve the problem?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Did you update your nexusfonts to its latest version when you updated Illustrator? I would suggest checking Nexusfonts website to make sure that whatever version you're using is fully compatible with the latest Illustrator. If not then, hopefully, they can provide a newer version which is.

I have been using FontExpert 2015 R2 (purchased in 2014) for many years without any problems or errors, since the days of the standalone Adobe Font Folio font package, when there was no online font database Adobe Fonts (Typekit) and now you suggest that I write to Proxima Software so that they can offer me something to fix a bug in Illustrator version 29.8.1? I tried the trial version of Font Expert 2025 R2, it did not change the situation, as the problem is with Illustrator 29.8.1.
There is no need to attach a fifth wheel to the car and it will function normally.

I use MainType and unfortunatley, that didn't fix it.

I am here to report the same issue using Font Base. It was working a couple versions ago, but now in 29.8.1 it no longer auto activates fonts. Illustrator must be closed and re-opened in order for it to detect activated fonts from font managers.

I have the same problem using font manager. Temporary automatic activation of fonts in Illustrator 29.8.1 using Font Expert has not working in this version. Now you need to restart Illustrator for fonts to be activated. It has also been noticed that not all fonts from a font family are loaded (doesn't matter OTF, TTF), for example, the Bold weight may not load. In Illustrator versions 29.7.1, 29.6.1, 29.6, ...., on-the-fly font activation works without any problems, but these versions have other bugs and are not suitable for me.
Please do not suggest reinstalling, resetting settings, updating, etc. I would not be writing this here if I had not tried it.
I'm tired of being an Adobe software QA tester instead of my current job.

I'm having the same issue (just started happening), using Extensis Connect and Illustrator (both current versions) on Windows 11 Home. Seems abundantly apparent that this is a problem on Adobe's end given all the different font management programs having the same type issues.

Please vote, David. Maybe we'll have a chance to get Adobe to fix this issue in Illustrator.

It’s been happening to me as well over the past couple of weeks. I ended up spending nearly a whole workday with Extensis support. Illustrator has always been notorious for its bugs, but now... it’s on a whole new level.

Same issue! MainType font manager has been updated and I still must close Illustrator for it to recognize newly installed fonts. This is extremely frustrating and time consuming!!

Fonts no longer show as active in Illustrator when turned on in Extensis Connect. I worked through a whole session with their tech folks and they determined it was Illustrator (and then they washed their hands of the problem). The Connect activated fonts show up for use in Photoshop, just not Illustrator. The computer is running Windows 11, system OS and all apps are up to date, no Type 1 fonts on the machine, reloaded both apps, and deleted all the fonts from the Connect library in case there was a corrupt font file. I even went into Local Group Policy Editor and shut off Untrusted Font Blocking. That allowed the first activated font to show up, but no subsequent ones would work.
Anyone run into a similar situation where your font manager stopped interacting with Illustrator?

I installed FontBase as a test of sorts. It did the same thing. First font will activate and subsequent ones do not.

Last night I tested the same versions of Extensis Connect and Illustrator at home with the same inability to activate fonts in Illustrator. That would seem to indicate this is not an issue with PC itself or even network domain policies that govern font use, since my computer at home is not on the company's network. The search seems to be pointing to a bad plug-in from Extensis or Illustrator's latest version is not cooperating with Extensis.
I had not deleted all the system fonts to see if there was a conflicting one in there. That's the current test. I'll report back to myself on here when I know.

Deactivated all fonts in Extensis Connect and deleted all fonts from the system folder that it would let me delete. Uninstalled the Connect plu-ins and reinstalled them. Reopened Illustrator and created a new blank doc. Created text using the Type Tool to test. Using the Character pulldown menu, I chose a font that I had just activated in Connect. It showed up on the list, but as a font not available to be chosen (had a star after the font name). However two other fonts showed up with similar name that had not been activated. One that isn't even uploaded to Connect since it was mostly purged. All three with stars after the name indicating they can't be used or are not active.
I closed out Illustrator and deactivated the font and then reran the test but nothing shows up when I search for the activated font. (So frustrating.)
Next step is to uninstall Illustrator and go back a few versions.

Howdy All, I've unistalled the 29.8.1 version of Illustrator and installed 28.7.9. It works as it should to allow fonts activated in Extensis Connect. There seems to be something wrong with the latest version of Illustrator that doesn't jive with Extensis Connect or vice versa.

@Anubhav M Just to reinforce what Iomaxd is reporting, I tested this on my own system (Windows 11 Pro, 24H2) and the problem exists only in Illustrator. Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, Stager, etc., all see activated fonts. The issue is also present in the current beta (30.0.72).
