Freeform gradient points change when object is selected with another object

Hi all, I'm having a problem with the freeform gradient. The points automatically change on their own if I try to select that object with anything else. I've tried select all, drag to select with black arrow, as well as clicking on the individual objects with ctrl+shift.

My goal is to group some objects together then copy and paste it into another file. However everytime I try to select more than one object with the freeform gradient, it changes!

Thoughts?

While freeform gradients do misbehave sometimes, this should not happen. Did you already restart the computer?

And if that does not fix it: reset the preferences?

I'm experiencing the exact same issue (v24.0.3 on macOS 10.15.3).

 

Unfortunately, these recommended fixes did not resolve it.

Can you try and deselect the option "Content aware" in the Preferences > General (not quite sure about the exact wording, but the option is in the bottom right of the panel)
